H.E, Teferi Fikre Gossaye, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of Ghana presented his letter of Credence to H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana at the ceremony prepared in the Jubilee House, Accra, on July 10, 2023.
During the ceremony, H.E Ambassador Teferi made remarks where he expressed his gratitude to the President and the People of Ghana for the warm reception accorded to him and conveyed the cordial greetings of the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde to the President and People of the Republic of Ghana. Furthermore, the Ambassador has extended his best wishes to the government and people of Ghana on behalf of the government and people of Ethiopia. Furthering his briefing to the president, Ambassador Tefrei has highlighted the current situation and new developments in Ethiopia focussing on the peace agreements signed in Pretoria, Ethiopia’s role in realizing peace and security at the Horn of Africa, and the approval of the Tariff Decisions on AfCFTA engagement protocol. Besides his briefings, H. E. Ambassador Teferi, has reiterated the firm commitment of the Government of Ethiopia to further strengthen both bilateral and multilateral relations with the Republic of Ghana.
At their discussion, Ambassador Teferi and the President, emphasized on the importance of boosting the bilateral relations and cooperations of the two countries on multilateral fora in all aspects of diplomatic engagements, expressing the commitments Ethiopia and Ghana have in that regard. Noting the strong historical relationship the two countries have, they stressed the important role played by Emperor Haile Selassie and President Kwame Nkrumah in sparking Pan Africanism Movement and founding the OAU, the predecessor of AU.
Moreover, the Ambassador and the President highlighted the importance of expanding trade and investment engagements not only bilaterally but also among African countries and capitalize the opportunities the continental free trade agreement (AfCFTA) could provide. Discussions were also made on the importance of focusing on experience sharing and knowledge transfer to support democratization, peace and security, and assist one another mainly on extractive and pharmaceutical industry areas.
The President also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continue further promoting and deepening Ethiopia-Ghana relations and to support the Ambassador during his tenure in Ghana.
